The author of Binky the Space Cat is immensley talented and had our students enthralled. They are still talking about her and drawing Binky. I would highly recommend her as an author to visit your school or library. We will have her books in the library by the end of November. It is so inspiring to have someone that talented around students. Everyone wants their own sketchbook now! Well done Ashley!
I continue to attempt to share student work and accomplishments using Photostory 3 but I haven't had much success. I would love it if someone would offer some advice as to how to use this program successfully.
Grace is a very interesting main character. Her parents seem cool but eventually you realize that they barely know she exists, they are so caught up in their own lives. She can get away with anything...including hiding a werewolf. Is that a good thing? As well, Grace was once attacked by wolves as a child but survived, and now she is obsessed with the ones running through the woods behind her home. One wolf in particular.
This is a series and I will definitely be reading Linger to find out waht happens next. Just to break things up a bit I picked up a new book by one of my favourite childrens' author, Ruth Ohi. Love these books! Chicken, Pig and Cow are the best of friends but things are not always smooth sailing for them. A fantastic illustrator as well.
One of the many books that I read over the summer was Empty by Suzanne Weyn. What intrigued me was again, "the future". These are always books that will pull me in. How would people react if suddenly gas became unaffordable? How many different areas of our lives would this affect? Gwen, one of the main characters has a unique perspective on the reactions of those people around here. Her life has already been changed forever and she has had to grow up quickly. News reports are placed through out the novel to help with the informational timeline of events.
This is a short novel and covers a fairly short period of time but gives the reader a chance to see many areas that may be affected by a lack of energy in our world. What sacrific Alright...this is beginning to get quite repetitive. I keep reading these series where the world is coming to an end. However, that is the genre of book that interests me at the moment. I may need to just keep reading to get it out of my system. I liked the idea of this book where a group of teens go off camping in the bush for the weekend and when they come back something has happened to all of their families.
I like the idea that they are together as a group of friends and you get to learn a bit about their characters before this huge upheaval in their lives. The book is set in Australia, which also entices me, as I lived in Australia for awhile when I was 17. What would I have done if something like this would have happened when I was living there. Hmmm...that 's what I love about these books. They make you think. This is the beginning of The Tomorrow Series. I will be interested to see what happens in the next book. |
Ms.TelferI have been the Teacher/Librarian at Aberdeen School for three years. I have loved reading since I was in the fifth grade and I read a book called Suzy's Secret which was about the underground railroad during the civil war. I took that book out of our town library and from that moment I became one of their best customers. Archives
